64 million km2 – 44% of Earth’s land area – requires conservation to safeguard biodiversity. This is revealed in our new study, published on 3 June 2022 in the prestigious journal Science. We also found that 1.8 billion people live on the land identified, emphasizing the importance of improving sustainable cohabitation and ecosystem protection in these regions.
